Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High sophomore Jayva McKibben battles for the ball between Bismarck High sophomore Kambree Neumiller (4) and freshman Grace Neumann (6) on a Majette corner kick in the first half of play.
The Bismarck High soccer girls were the most recent group to try ending the unbeaten streak of the Minot High girls, and the shutout streak for freshman goalie Kinsli Gilmore. Both streaks remained intact, despite a 0-0 halftime score, when the Majettes netted three goals last in the second half to win 4-0 in the home game.
In the first half of play, Minot pressured the ball and just missed on several shots on goal. The Majettes had a pair of close free kicks and three corner kicks in the opening half with one shot in particular bouncing off the crossbar when senior Emerson Perrin aimed for the net.
At the 43rd minute of the second half, senior Maciee Burke collected a pass from junior Morgan Forthun to score the first goal of the game for the Majettes.
With the game still in question, Perrin added a goal on a penalty kick in the 70th minute of play. Less than a minute later, Burke hit her second goal after an assist by Anistyn Perrin found her in the right place at the right time.
In the 71st minute of play, E. Perrin again found the net on a free kick to get to the 4-0 win.
Minot High outshot Bismarck High 14-1 in the game. Most of the game action was played from side to side as the Majettes worked the ball and tired the visitors with the passing attack for the first 69 minutes of play.
The Majettes will host Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday, May 16, and travels to Jamestown on Friday, May 17, and Bismarck Century the following week. Minot High will host Williston for the last conference home game on Friday, May 24, to end the regular season of play.
