The Thunder basketball team is back, Chet Holmgren is back, and they won their opening match in the Salt Lake City Summer League.

Chet Holmgren showed flashes of brilliance in his first competitive basketball game in just under a year as the OKC Thunder dominated the Utah Jazz, 94-85, to begin their Summer League season Monday night.

In the opening game of the Summer League, Chet Holmgren makes a comeback to help the OKC Thunder defeat the Utah Jazz.
Chet Holmgren, who returned, played 29 minutes and finished with 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting (45 percent true shooting), nine rebounds, and four forceful blocks.

The 7’1″ big man further cemented his status as the rim protector the Thunder need to fulfil their peak defensive potential by blocking both this year’s 16th selection Keyonte George and last year’s 14th overall choice Ochai Agbaji.

The Rookie of the Year runner-up from the previous season, Jalen Williams, led OKC with 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting and four rebounds, while Tre Mann added 20 points on four three-pointers.

The Thunder dominated the game from beginning to end, outscoring the Jazz by as many as 27 points in the third quarter before mounting a rally to reduce the deficit to just ten points in the fourth.

The second quarter saw OKC score 43 points, the majority of which came from dogged defence and offensive outbursts from Jalen Williams and Mann. Holmgren scored all eight of his points in the first half in the second quarter after missing his first three shots.

Despite a strong performance, Holmgren, who has never participated in an NBA regular season game due to a foot injury, heard “overrated” boos from the Utah fans during his free throws in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter.

Jaylin Williams, meanwhile, concluded the game with eight points, 13 rebounds, and two charges. In addition, Ousmane Dieng scored four points on a pitiful 1-of-11 shooting from the field. Jared Butler scored 10 points, Jaden Shackelford scored eleven, and Hunter Maldonado scored six off the bench.

On July 5th, the Thunder will play their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
